Our History

A Family-Owned Company, Four Generations Strong

D.L. and Estelle Fail bought their hometown telephone company back in 1923, starting with one manual switchboard and a handful of poles. By 1973 that had grown into a holding company serving communities across four states, and in 1992 Charlie and Dot Fail, along with their children Donna and Cy, founded Fail Telecommunications Corporation. In 2023, the family celebrated 100 years and four generations in the business. Today, great-granddaughters Christa and Ali run the company their family has always run, now known as Arriva.

About the Area

Fiber Internet in Mound Bayou, MS

Mound Bayou holds a unique place in American history. It was founded in 1887 by Isaiah T. Montgomery and Benjamin T. Green, two men born into slavery who built a self-governing, independent Black community in the Mississippi Delta. The town became a symbol of self-determination and economic opportunity for Black Americans in the decades that followed, and the Mound Bayou Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places today.

That same spirit of building something lasting for the community is part of why Arriva keeps free public Wi-Fi hotspots running across Mound Bayou, at places like the Delta Health Center and the Museum of African American History & Culture. Reliable internet matters here just as much as anywhere else, for students doing schoolwork, families staying in touch, and residents accessing telehealth and employment resources.
